Built in our factory in Västerås, installed in days

Time matters. The weeks between a signed order and a robot in production are weeks where the investment costs money but does not yet earn any. During the installation, the customer's own production is affected too.

That is why we do as much of the work as possible before the cell leaves our factory in Västerås, Sweden.

OpiFlex robot cells built on a standardised platform in the factory in Västerås

Standardised hardware, flexible software

Every OpiFlex cell is built on a standardised platform, from standard components from global suppliers, with ABB robots. The hardware is the same from cell to cell. What makes each cell fit a particular production is the patented software and the grippers.

The platforms are built in our factory in Västerås, with a capacity of more than one cell a week. Lead time for a platform is 5–16 weeks depending on the robot.

Tested before delivery

Every cell is tested in our factory before delivery (FAT).

Installed in days

A traditional robot installation normally takes 4–6 weeks. Installation of an OpiFlex cell normally takes 2–4 days: set-up of robot, cell and safety, test runs with several products, site acceptance test and training. Order to installation is normally 4–16 weeks.

The difference shows clearly in an example calculation from our presentations, with a downtime cost of 150 € per hour. A traditional installation of 30 days, with production down 80 % of the time, costs 28,800 € in lost production on one shift. An installation of 4 days with about 10 % downtime costs 480 €. On five shifts the figures are 144,000 € and 2,400 €. Your own figures will be different, but the proportions are worth having in mind.

Easier to maintain

Standardised hardware also makes maintenance simpler. With Quick Swap, a robot can be replaced in about 15 minutes, compared with 2–3 hours for changing a calibrated spare robot, and serviced outside the line. Read more in Maintaining robots in five shifts.

What it would mean for you

How much the installation time matters depends on how many shifts you run and what a stop costs in your plant. We are happy to go through it with your own numbers. Get in touch and tell us a little about your production first.
