That is a job nobody wants to build a robot cell for. The need is real while it lasts. A measurement or a surface has to be verified on every part, shift after shift. Then the cause is found, the issue is solved, and the need is gone. A dedicated cell built for those weeks would have little to do once they are over. ## A robot that comes when it is needed Temporary 100 % inspection was one of the examples Scania and OpiFlex presented together at Advanced Engineering in 2022. The idea is a mobile robot cell with a vision camera and a measuring device. It is placed in the line, or at a quality station elsewhere in the plant, for as long as the inspection is needed. If more capacity is needed, more robots are added. When the issue is solved, the robot moves on to its next task. Two things make this practical. The cell has no fence, and it docks at a station with high precision. In our comparison, moving a cell in the layout takes 2–4 hours, against 1.5–2 weeks for a traditional fenced cell. A robot does not have to be an asset tied to one place. In a Robot Pool, robots are shared and moved between lines, shifts and machines, and used where the need is right now. It covers this and the other examples we showed. ## Where else it fits The same thinking applies to other tasks that matter now but will not last, such as the start-up of new production or a pilot line.
